Studies for a week

*This is a crosspost between another blog I'm a part of and this one but I wanted to post these up in a sequence together.

These are 1 hour digital painting studies I've been painting for the past week or so. They were all from photographs I took this summer in the states. My main focus here is to get faster, more efficient and nice colours.

The large waterfall one is the most recent from tonight, and I have to say the improvement of my brushwork is showing!

Here are some additional studies from the week.
a 1 hr study of an ad I screen-capped one day
a 1 hr study of a sarge painting

Life Drawings!

Some of my life drawings that I liked and could find in my house from the first semester of 2nd year : )
Brian took almost half of my portfolio so I don't have pictures of them to put...

I'm pretty proud of these even though there are very clearly some errors in each one ahha... but drawing them at the time was refreshing and I feel like I learned a lot this term!

eeek, i messed up the legs lol

a really fun 30 seconds!

trying some more experimental techniques

Finally finished this!! just 5 more unfinished paintings to paint this break!

Digital paintings

Some things that I keep working on and never getting round to finishing. Luckily winterbreak just started for me, so maybe I can finish them soon!

Background painting + colour keys + workbook

The last two painting assignments!
Layout painting: painted the bg for my last colour key from my storyboards

Colour keys: painted story boards from a previous post

I tried to make the colour scheme really organic and edible. Rich colours of fooood : D

Layout Workbook: sketches and notes from the first 5 scenes of the same story board (with the vegetables)

Thumbnail concepts

layout class thumbnails! I am faithfully updating with every assignment from semester 1! even the boring ones lol.

This winter break I will resume with more digital paintings tho

Another gouache painting post!

A painting assignment from first year that I recently got back! I really enjoyed painting the bg far more than the cell animation ; A ; i really fudged up with the acrylic paint

Character design assignments from 1st semester

Character design assignments from school for semester 1:

and now something from spare time : ) I was playing a lot of tactics ogre and drew a valkyrie girl, trying to apply the anatomy I learned in life drawing into cartoon figures.

Caricatures: strange colours!

this red one is my favourite face

Storyboard first semester

Original Beats and Boards:
Our class decided on the theme "How Do I Look" and we were each to board a story using that as a starting point.

I made a story about a boy, Charles, who out of guilt could not see straight!
The characters (Mindy's design was changed later)

The Beat Boards

"How Do I Look?"

Poem Beats and Boards:
We were to use a poem to give us an idea to board in Nancy Beiman's class. Here are the story beats and boards for "The Spangled Pandemonium" poem :) Characters and story by me
